Nicola Wilson – Chairperson
Having recently taken over as Chairperson of Beckenham & Bromley Twins Club (BBTC), I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.
I joined Twins Club when I was pregnant as I wanted to meet other twin Mums to gather lots of information and advice! My plan was to attend the group when I went on Maternity Leave, but 2 weeks into my leave, Isabella and Liberty arrived 7 weeks early. I also have my little man Zak who has just turned one (yes I was one the mad Mums who was brave / mad enough to have another after twins!).
Twins Group has been a lifeline for me. Through joining I was put in touch with a couple of Mums who were pregnant at the same time as me. It has been great to share the journey, (through laughter and tears) and 3 years down the line, we are great friends. Attending both the Tuesday and Friday groups has extended our group of friends and we now have a lovely gang of twins the same age who we regularly meet with and arranges days out (and nights out for the Mums and Dads!).
Candy Fung – Newsletter Editor
I have been a Committee member since moving down to Bromley from Islington 3 years ago with my husband Lok and twin boys Tate and Kian (nearly 5) who are in Reception at school now.
It has been great getting to know members through going to the group and even better when you can offer advice and help others going through the same stages, whether you have been there or it’s the dreaded next stage (like potty training!). I have enjoyed putting the Newsletter together over the last year and will do for another year or so, once the website is up and running, it may mean that a Newsletter is not necessary.
Jo Wall – Website Co-ordinator and 3T's Representative
Committee member since October 2008, started as Publicist (role now vacant). Along with Jo Bennett, I help run 3T's playgroup, Beckenham (since Sept 2009) and am also responsible for creating new Twins Club Website. Any ideas for the website are welcome.
Mum to Clara and Tilly (2 ¾ year old identical girls) and started Twins Club when I was 6 months pregnant. Twins Club was a fantastic place to gain support and advice from other twin Mums and Dads and has been a real lifeline!
Louise Latchem – Membership Secretary
I’m Mum to two year old twins Charlie and Emma. In my previous life, I was a clinical research scientist and I may return to that one day if I ever get my brain back. I joined the committee as Membership Secretary in October 2009. I joined because I wanted to give something back as the Twins Club was a lifeline to me when the kids were tiny (and still is really)…………and after 2 years I was finally at a stage where I was no longer falling asleep on the sofa every night by 8pm and had a wee bit of energy to spare.
My role essentially involves sending out club info to new members, handling renewals, keeping a record of membership and being the club’s contact for TAMBA. As a committee member I hope to also bring ideas and assistance to the club to help provide a real community for members and their children. In addition to my role, I also help The Two Jos out with the running of the 3Ts Friday morning group.
Christine Keenor – Treasurer
My main role is to keep accurate financial records, provide regular reports and work closely with the committee. I am a stay-at-home Mum to twin girls Sofia and Phoebe who will be 3 in December. I joined BBTC when the girls were 4 months old and have found it to be a great support. It’s a great place to meet other twin parents, swap advice and the extra bonus is that I have made some great friends. I am keen to help keep it running so we can continue to support each other.
Jo Bennett – 3T’s Representative
I have just joined the committee and along with Jo Wall and Louise Latchem, help run 3T’s on Friday in Beckenham. I am mum to Oliver (7), Isobel and William (3). I started coming to Twins Club on a Tuesday when my twins were small. I then started going on Fridays too. I have made some really good friends through the club and really appreciate being able to go somewhere friendly and welcoming each week. I wanted to get more involved to help keep 3T’s running so that other parents and their children can get the same support and friendship I have from the club.
Dawn Richards – Nearly New Sale Rep
Mum to 3 years old Jack and Leon. I have been attending Twins Club virtually every week since the boys were 10 weeks old and it was an absolute lifeline for me in the early days but more importantly, I have met some wonderful new friends too!
Dawn Richards, Sally Shelley and Ali Adams are jointly responsible for the BBTC Nearly New Sale. This role involves booking, advertising and organising the two Nearly New Sales we hold in April and October. We have decided to move the next NNS to the Bromley Baptist Church to give us more space and hopefully, even expand it to include a few more stalls (e.g. Pampered Chef products, Usbourne Books, Jewellery, crafts etc??). A date will be confirmed in the new year. We will be taking bookings from members and non-members early in the new year.
Alison Adams – Social Secretary and Nearly New Sale Rep
Mum to 2 years old George and Harry. I have been attending Twins Club since the boys were 7 months old. The support that you get from other twin mums is just amazing and the advice and tips have been really helpful too. I have also been lucky enough to make some wonderful friends along the way.
My role as Social Secretary involves organising regular meals out and giving twin mums an opportunity to let their hair down. In 2010 we may look at some new ideas………………perhaps a spa day and some local theatre trips. Any suggestions are more than welcome.
Vacancy - Publicist Role
There is currently a vacant role for a Publicist, this involves updating club posters and new business cards, distributing to hospitals, midwives and any other organisations. Also, responsible for advertising Nearly New Sale in the News Shopper twice a year. It is a great role that can be developed if the new person had the opportunity. Jo Wall will still be around to assist, so please contact us if you are interested.
